US Tropical Aquaculture expands into salmon

US tilapia supplier Tropical Aquaculture Products is expanding into salmon, unveiling this week that it is adding salmon farmed organically in Ireland to its growing product mix.

The Rutland, Vermont-based company will begin offering West Cork Organic Salmon from Murphy's Irish Seafood.

The salmon are raised in low-density sea cages situated in a large tidal exchange and fed a diet containing only natural and organic ingredients, result in the highest-quality farm-raised product that is as near to wild as possible, according to Tropical Aquaculture.

The fish are processed in a British Retail Consortium Grade-A facility and can be packed according to customers' specifications.

The operation has an array of accreditations, including Agriculture Biologique certification from Quality-France SAS and Naturland Verband's organic certification, and has been audited by BIO Suisse, the Irish Organic Farmers and Growers Association and the European Union's organic-farming body.
