Brazil's grain production to rise 6.4% for 2021-22 harvest
Brazil's grain production is expected to reach 271.8 million tonnes for its 2021/22 harvest, a volume that represents an increase of 6.4% compared to the previous season, according to the current estimate by Conab (National Supply Company).
It also represents a slight gain of 2.5 million tonnes compared to the estimate published the previous month. This improvement in production is explained by the larger area planted of second-crop corn, in addition to better development at the end of the crop season, especially for rice, corn and soybeans.
For corn, total production is expected to reach 116.19 million tonnes, an increase of 33.4% over the 2020/21 crop. A longer window for planting the second crop coupled with market conditions favored cereal acreage growth.
This increase may reduce the negative impact due to adverse weather conditions in key producing regions of the second harvest of the grain, such as Goiás and part of Mato Grosso.
Even with a recorded drought, production in the state of Goiás is expected to increase by 31.7% compared to the previous season.
