New York's April egg production increases by 2%
 

 

New York farms' egg production reached 108 million eggs in April, up 2% from the year-ago period.

 

This is according to Blair Smith, state statistician at the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service, New York Field Office.

 

The number of New York hens and pullets of laying age, at 4.43 million, was unchanged from April 2012, but the rate of lay increased 2% to 2,437 eggs per 100 layers, the field office said.

 

US egg production totalled 7.81 billion during April 2013, up 3% from a year earlier, the USDA reported. The total number of layers during April averaged 346 million nationally, up 1% from a year prior.
