ASF kills 36 pigs in Sunsari District, Nepal
African Swine Fever (ASF) has killed 36 pigs in Barahakshetra Municipality of Sunsari district in Nepal, according to the Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Expert Centre, Inaruwa municipality.
Dr Manoj Kumar Mahto, chief of the centre, said ASF infections were confirmed in pigs at three commercial farms in the municipality. At Diyali Agriculture Farm in Barahakshetra-1, 20 pigs were infected and 17 have died. Barah Pig Farm reported 15 infections and seven deaths, while 22 pigs were infected and 12 died at a farm operated by local farmer Subash Shrestha.
A total of 36 pigs have died and 57 more remain infected in Barahakshetra alone, according to Dr Mahto. Previous ASF outbreaks were also recorded in Duhabi, Ramdhuni, and Dharan areas of the district.
