Swine farmers in the Philippines receive US$171,000 swine production boost

The Philippines' Department of Agriculture (DA) in the Caraga Region, handed over a PHP 10 million (US$171,000) project to a group of swine farmers in Agusan del Norte, a province in the Caraga region, Philippine News Agency reported.
According to a statement from DA, the assistance was provided under the agency's Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) program. The beneficiaries are members of the Barangay Agong-ong Active Farmers Association Inc. (BAAFAI) in Buenavista town.
The project includes a bio-secured facility equipped with a perimeter fence, biogas system, shower room, and feed storage. Additionally, the group received 300 weanlings, feeds, and other zoological supplies through the INSPIRE programme.
Josefina Makiling, president of BAAFAI, expressed gratitude to the DA and the local government for the project. She highlighted the significance of the support in helping them recover from the impact of African Swine Fever (ASF).
In a separate statement, DA Regional Executive Director Arlan Mangelen noted that the INSPIRE project delivered to BAAFAI represents the third batch for the region.
