Pakistan defers wheat exports despite bumper crop
Pakistan has deferred exports of wheat to avoid any price rise, despite the country expecting a bumper crop this year, a government official who didn't want to be identified said Wednesday (May 20).
Pakistan's top decision making body, the Economic Coordination Committee, at a meeting held in Islamabad Tuesday decided not to allow wheat exports, said an official of the Ministry of Finance.
The meeting was chaired by Shaukat Tarin, defacto finance minister.
Pakistan is likely to reap a wheat crop of around 24 million tonnes.
