Ukraine grain export in 2008/09 season may total 13.5 mln tonnes

 

 

Ukraine expects grain exports to hit 13.5 million tonnes for the 2008/09 season, according to the Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine Yaroslav Gadsalo, APK-Inform reported.

 

Gadsalo noted that if current weather conditions and sowing areas under grain crops stay their course, Ukraine may harvest 40 million tonnes of grain.

 

This year Ukrainian wheat yield would total 19.11 million tonnes, barley- 8.979 million tonnes, corn for 9.085 million tonnes, rye- 0.932 million tonnes and other grain crops -1.9 million tonnes, according to the estimates of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

 

The Ministry's experts consider, that taking into account the carry-over stocks, the total grain offer in 2008/09 season would be at the level of 46 million tonnes.

 

About 7.2 million tonnes of grain would be consumed and 14.3 million tonnes for animal feed, meaning an export potential of 26 million tonnes.
