Below is an abstract of the report:

China corn price movement stabilised at end of April

With favourable exports, corn prices in China were moving up throughout April, only stabilising towards month-end. For second grade corn in April, the national average and the price at Zhengzhou wholesale grain market both increased by less than 1 percent. Greater interests in cultivation were evident in the north-eastern production regions with Jilin registering an estimated total of 2.915 million hectares and Heilongjiang a slight increase in acreage. Although floods caused by heavy rain in the two provinces hindered the progress of spring sowing in April, the return of warmer weather at the end of the month helped restore the pace of sowing.

This 2-page report includes:

1.            Heavy rainfall impedes spring sowing

2.            Farmers' selling interests affected by spring sowing activities

3.            Corn demand expected to improve with the stepping up of livestock farm inventory

               replacement

4.            Likely near-term strengthening of corn prices in the Yellow/Huai River regions

5.            Significant increase in China's corn export
