Vietnam's Q1 2012 shrimp export up 9.3%
In the first quarter of this year, Vietnam has approximately earned a total of US$436 million from shrimp export, up 9.3% on year, the Vietnam General Department of Customs said.
In March alone, Vietnam shipped US$178 million worth of shrimps, rising 29% on month and 13.4% on year, the data showed.
Vietnam's main shrimp importers are Japan, US, China and Hong Kong. Shrimp export to these countries rose in between 13-26% on year in the period. In which, shrimp export to Japan reached US$113.5 million (up 17.3% on year) while shrimp export to US was US$90.2 million (up 9.2%).
Of note, shrimp export to the European market fell by 21.8% to US$59.7 million in the period due to economic downturn.
