Australian feedlot cattle increase

The quantity of cattle in intensive feedlots from Australia has increased.

The latest figures seem to contradict claims from the industry that the high Australian dollar is making business difficult.

The Australian Lot Feeders Association's Dougal Gordon said during the March quarter, cattle on feed numbers rose by 6%.

He said although both grain and feed cattle prices rose, the biggest issue was the stronger dollar.

"It increased again over the quarter and on year increased about 10% against the US dollar, about 9% against the Korean won, whilst remaining somewhat flatter against the yen."
