Brazil's Mato Grosso do Sul to be declared FMD-free without vaccination by 2023

The Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul will obtain foot-and-mouth disease-free status without vaccination by 2023 after completing the last step to achieve the title from Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture in November this year.

According to the latest PNEFA (National FMD Surveillance Program) survey, Mato Grosso do Sul's beef cattle immunisation campaign this year will be the last exercise before certification by national and international health authorities.

Starting in 2023, FMD-free area status without vaccination for the state will also ensure that the state's swine industry gains and expands markets for pork.
