HKScan, Qinglian Food promotes Finnish pork export in Shanghai exhibition

HKScan and its Chinese partner, Qinglian Food, recently participated in SIAL, Asia's biggest food exhibition held in Shanghai, China, and introduced their joint venture Nordic Lotus Food Co to customers.

The move is part of HKScan's journey to establish a footprint in China with its premium-category, value-added products such as sirloin and tenderloin - products which the company has mainly offered in the Nordic region.
HKScan is the first Finnish company to establish a presence in premium market niche in China.

HKScan and Qinglian Food signed an agreement on February 26 to launch Nordic Lotus Food in China. The joint venture will commercialise, sell and market products on the Chinese market. The offering will consist of Rypsiporsas® (Omega-3 Pork) products.

"Finnish Rypsiporsas® differentiates from the competition with superior quality and responsible production. The feedback from our Chinese customers has been really encouraging," said Jukka Nikkinen, head of HKScan exports.

"As the world's fourth biggest food exhibition, SIAL is an efficient place to increase our Asian customers' knowledge about the Finnish professionalism and high quality in food production and agricultural practicalities. Competition is fierce all around the world, and China is no exception - only the most competitive products make the cut."

The largest exporters to China are Germany, Spain and US.

In December 2017, the Chinese food authorities granted an export permit to HKScan's Forssa plant, which is ISO 9001, 14001 and FSSC 22 000 certified. The unit already had export licenses for other markets including the US and Russia.

The first air cargo delivery has already arrived in China from Forssa, Finland.

Additionally, the first 25,000kg shipment by sea is on the way to Tianjin Port and will arrive in June.
