India's Haryana beats wheat procurement goal

 

 

India's Haryana has surpassed the target for 65 lakh tonnes of wheat procurement in the ongoing rabi marketing year, with 66.52 lakh (6.65 million) tonnes lifted so far.

 

An official spokesman said Friday (May 13) that over 66.56 lakh tonnes of wheat has arrived in various mandis of the state. Out of the total arrival of wheat during the marketing year, 4,084 tonnes has been procured by traders, he said.

 

Haryana, which is heading for record wheat procurement this marketing year, had recorded the highest-ever wheat arrival of 69.24 lakh tonnes in 2009-10. The state procured 63.47 lakh tonnes of wheat last year.

 

Giving a break-up of the wheat procured by government agencies, he said over 23.31 lakh tonnes of wheat was purchased by HAFED, over 17.48 lakh tonnes by the Food and Supplies Department, 8.15 lakh tonnes by Food Corporation of India, 6.66 lakh tonnes by Haryana Agro Industries Corporation, 6.01 lakh tonnes by Haryana Warehousing Corporation and 4.87 lakh tonnes by CONFED.
