Ukraine's 2010 poultry meat output reaches 1.5 million tonnes

As of January 1 this year, all types of poultry in all categories of farmers totalled 202.1 million heads, said Ukraine's Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food, Mykola Prysyazhnyuk.

"Thanks to the cooperation of state and local farmers the industrial poultry farming for the last few years we managed to revive and meat consumption per capita - to increase. In 2010 the company produced 1224.8 thousand tonnes of poultry meat and total number of poultry in all categories of farms as of January 1, 2011 was totalled 202.1 million head," Mykola Prysyazhnyuk said.

According to the Minister, the domestic production of poultry meat can not only fully meet domestic consumer market and generate substantial export potential. In recent years, export of poultry from Ukraine increased and in 2010 was amounted to 33,000 tonnes.

"Due to considerable state support the production of poultry and attraction of investment in manufacturing Ukraine becomes less dependent on import for this type of production," the official noted.
