Hong Kong bans beef from California meat processing plant
Hong Kong suspended beef imports from a processing plant in California run by the Selma-based Harris Ranch Beef Company Tuesday (May 16) after its products violated protection measures against mad cow disease.
Beef with bones from the plant was found in the shipment.
Hong Kong currently only allows the import of US boneless beef from cattle less than 30 months old with the brain and spinal cord removed.
Two other US meat-processing companies have already been banned by Hong Kong for violating the new policy.
