Ukraine grain harvest expected to be lower this year but still substantial
Mykola Solskyi, Ukraine's Agriculture Minister, said the country's grain harvest in 2022 is expected to be lower this year but still very large quantities are involved, Reuters reported.
He said this ahead of a meeting with other agriculture ministers from the Group of Seven industrialised nations (G7).
Solskyi said half of Ukraine's wheat cultivation land for winter is currently under conflict or have been occupied by Russian troops.
The minister estimated that an additional 30 to 40 million tonnes of grain would need to be shipped from Ukraine, and that Ukraine and its allies would need to work together to remove a grain export blockade on Black Sea ports, adding that Baltic ports may provide a logistical opening for exports.
