Vietnam's fish farming surges by 22 percent in first four months of 2008
Vietnam's total fish farming volume is currently at 560,000 tonnes, up by 22.3 percent from the previous year, the Ministry of Aquaculture and Rural Development reported.
The country's total aquaculture yield was placed at 1.2 million tonnes, achieving 28.5 percent of the national target for the year.
Vietnam's total export value for seafood from January to April was US$1.09 billion.
Dong Thap province had one of the best showing of the year, producing 56,000 tonnes of seafood, with total value of exports amounting to US$58 million, more than double that of 2007.
Dong Thap currently has eight aquaculture processing mills and plans to build 8 new ones in 2008.
