China's New Hope Group completes first phase of lysine plant

China's New Hope Group has completed the first phase of its 200,000-tonne per year production lysine plant, which has come online in Baotou City's hi-tech industry zone in Inner Mongolia.

When completed in five years, the project, with total investment worth RMB 1.8 billion (US$234 million), would be China's largest lysine manufacturing base. The first stage of the project involves a 20,000 tonne per year lysine production. Revenue from lysine and other corn byproducts such as corn protein are expected to bring in revenue of RMB 300 million ( US$ 39 million) a year, with tax revenues at RMB 80 million (US$ 10.4 million).

The project, using ion-exchange technology, has zero waste water emission and would deploy the most advanced environmental control technology in China.
