Philippines' Department of Agriculture proposes including eggs in disaster relief packs

The Philippines' Department of Agriculture (DA) is considering a collaboration with the country's Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to include eggs in disaster relief packs, which aims to support producers and promote nutrition, according to a senior DA official, The Philippine Star reported.
Agriculture Assistant Secretary and spokesman Arnel De Mesa highlighted that the Batangas Egg Producers Multipurpose Cooperative (BEPCO) has been producing roasted eggs with a shelf life of up to six months.
De Mesa said the country wants to promote eggs as the number one source of protein as they are cheap and roasted eggs can be produced by BEPCO, lasting up to six months.
He said they will schedule a meeting with DSWD undersecretary Edu Punay to promote this.
He cited a survey by the Philippine Statistics Authority, showing that the strong production of poultry and eggs contributed to the overall growth of the agriculture sector in the first quarter of 2024.
