New York firm issues recall, suspects plastic pieces in beef
Fairbank Farms in Ashville, NY, is voluntarily recalling more than 22,000 pounds of ground beef products that may contain pieces of plastic, the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced late Monday (May 12, 2008).
The products were processed at Fairbank Farms' Ashville facility and sold through various retail outlets and a wholesale distributor.
The products include various kinds of ground beef and ground beef patties produced on May 3. They were distributed to retail establishments in Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts and New York.
The problem was discovered after the company received consumer complaints. No injuries have been reported.
