IBGE: Brazil 2007 grain production seen at 132.3 million tonnes


 

Brazil's grain production is expected to register 132.3 million tonnes in 2007, according to Brazilian statistics institute IBGE (Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatistica). This represents an increase from the earlier estimate of 130.7 million tonnes by the National Food Supply Company (Conab).

 

Domestic 2007 grain planting area is seen at 45.6 million hectares, up 0.1 percent from 2006.

 

Brazil's soybean and corn planting areas are forecast at 20.6 million and 9.4 million hectares respectively.
