No US Dairies Under Investigation For Mad Cow Disease
No dairies in San Angelo, Texas, are under investigation for possible Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy.
The uproar over a cow that should have been tested for BSE at a Texas packing plant has spawned rumors, some of them false. According to a rumour, the Food and Drug Administration was supposedly monitoring a San Angelo dairy.
A USDA spokesperson says the animal in question was a beef cow, not a dairy cow. She said a USDA/APHIS representative went to the farm of origin to talk to the owner, but the visit had "no epidemiological function." In other words, the farm is not under surveillance.
