The disease re-emerged at the Dateh 02 SF complex weeks after an initial cull, raising concerns over transmission risks from the facility's scale and interconnected housing.
Authorities in Lam Dong Province have culled 9,556 pigs weighing a combined 356 tonnes following a resurgence of African swine fever at the Dateh 02 SF facility in Da Teh 3 Commune, operated by DH VINA AGRI's Binh Duong branch. The cull was carried out between 4 and 8 May and covered breeding boars, sows, piglets and weaned pigs.
The outbreak marks a second wave at the site. More than 1,000 pigs were culled in April, after which the facility recorded 19 consecutive disease-free days before infections resurfaced on 3 May among a herd of more than 9,700 pigs.
The Lam Dong Department of Agriculture and Environment identified the facility's large scale, dense livestock population and interconnected housing system as factors heightening the risk of rapid transmission. Possible sources of reinfection include the transport of breeding pigs from Gia Lai Province, contaminated stream water entering the site, and wild birds.
Because the facility lacked sufficient space for on-site burial, infected carcasses were disposed of at a designated site approximately two kilometres from nearby residential areas.
Provincial authorities have intensified monitoring, transport inspections and disinfection in affected and high-risk zones. Farmers across the province have been urged to follow strict biosecurity procedures and to avoid transporting, slaughtering or concealing infected animals.
The outbreak at Dateh 02 SF is the most significant recorded in the province this year, though African swine fever has also been confirmed at six household farms across Lam Dong since January 2026, resulting in the culling of more than 2,200 additional pigs.
