India's TERI in partnership to drive aquaculture development in Goa
India's Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) has decided to partner with real estate developer Bennet and Bernard Custom Homes to encourage and develop aquaculture projects in Goa, India.
The think tank, which is dedicated to conducting research in sustainable development, particularly in tackling climate change in India, will share research and help develop hatcheries, nurseries and cultivation of different aquaculture fish and plant species. It will also train and provide learning programmes for local employees.
"Harnessing the local human and natural resources for the greater good of the society is the need of the hour," said Dr. Fraddry D'souza, area convenor of TERI's Coastal Ecology and Marine Resources Centre. "This pact with Bennet and Bernard group is the perfect example of an alliance between the knowledge and application of technology with the organic habitat. We are hopeful that this collaboration will help in not only social but also economic development of the area."
Chairman and founder of the Bennet & Bernard group, Lincoln Bennet Rodrigues, said that his company has been working on various projects in the wellbeing sector.
"Being a strong proponent of creating a sustainable and self-reliant society, the group has launched multiple projects in the last couple of years. This association with TERI is another step forward towards establishing a self-sufficient community across Goa and extended territories," said Rodrigues.
Bennet and Bernard will be providing funding, resources, logistical support and other local support while TERI will bring their expertise and knowledge in aquaculture.
