Australians remain pork lovers despite AH1N1 fears

The first formal survey of consumers following the global AH1N1 outbreak showed that Australians want to keep eating pork despite widespread worries of the novel flu.

The survey of 500 Australians, commissioned by marketing body Australian Pork Limited, showed that 83 percent of shoppers will not stop buying pork.

Several countries have banned imports from the US, Canada and Mexico after the spread of the AH1N1 flu virus, but the restrictions have since eased.

The World Health Organisation said the virus cannot be transmitted through pork consumption.
