Indian seafood exports at record high for 2004-05

 

 

India's seafood exports for 2004-05 reached a record high of US$1.48 billion, with the EU surpassing the US as the largest market.

 

Total exports to the US declined by 5.85 percent mainly due to the anti-dumping duty imposed by the US government on imports of frozen shrimp from India. Frozen shrimp exports have then fallen 15.02 percent in quantity, and 7.93 percent in US dollar value.

 

25.52 percent of total volume in exports went to the EU, an increase from 23.37 percent last year. The export quantity increased by 22.29 percent and 26.71 percent in US dollar value.

 

Seafood shipments to Japan showed a rise in value but overall fell by 4.3 percent in quantity and 2.72 percent in US dollar value.
