Bühler launches Nutrex 7 Series extrusion systems with focus on hygiene, efficiency and digital integration

Swiss processing equipment group introduces next-generation twin-screw extruder platform built on four decades of extrusion expertise, targeting food safety and productivity improvements for feed and food manufacturers.

Bühler Group has launched the Nutrex 7 Series, a new generation of extrusion systems designed to meet increasing market demands for food safety, operational efficiency and user-friendliness across feed, pet food and food production applications.

Built on the company's proven twin-screw extrusion technology, which has been deployed in hundreds of installations worldwide over 40 years, the Nutrex 7 Series introduces improvements across four areas: hygienic design, process stability, integrated intelligence and service excellence, all aimed at improving overall equipment efficiency for customers.

On the hygiene front, the system features a slimmer external design with an elevated base frame for greater ground clearance and improved cleaning access. A patented Cleaning Lance enables effective internal cleaning while improving safety for operating personnel. The system is constructed from stainless steel and designed for wet cleaning from both inside and outside.

Digital integration is a central feature of the new platform. A fully revised, browser-based control system allows processes to be monitored and controlled remotely, with a new visualisation concept mapping preconditioning, weighing, extruding and cutting across multiple levels. The system also introduces StepFlow, an automated start-up and shutdown function based on pre-defined production values that Bühler says can reduce product waste by up to 30% per run. A hygienic stainless-steel 24-inch touchscreen and CCP Monitoring and OEE app options round out the digital offering.

Service packages include Vibration Monitor, Oil Condition Monitor, Spare and Wear Parts Packages and Expert Services, enabling condition-based maintenance and improved system availability.

The Nutrex 7 Series was developed in close collaboration with customers across pet food, extruded flours and cereals applications and has been tested in industrial operation. Kärntner Mühle in Austria, one of the first test customers, said the system offered simple integration into existing lines and significantly simplified handling.
