Swine nutrition academic retires from Iowa State University's animal science department

Professor of applied swine nutrition John Patience, PhD, has retired from the department of animal science at Iowa State University (US).

Dr. Patience served as the professor of applied swine nutrition in the department. He was hired by the university as an associate professor in 2008 and moved to role of professor in 2010. His research has focused on swine nutrition.

Dr. Patience also worked with pork producers as an expert in the Iowa Pork Industry Center.

"Dr. Patience anticipated the needs of the swine industry in large part because of his breadth of relationships that enabled him to gather and process information to effectively identify emerging and future needs that his programme could address,"   said Jason Ross, director of the Iowa Pork Industry Center.

"In addition to his world class extension programme, Dr. Patience's legacy has also occurred through his investment in training and mentoring many graduate and undergraduate researchers. Many of these trainees are now nationally and internationally influential in production agriculture through their own careers."

Dr. Patience has also served on numerous swine industry committees, having most recently helped organised the International Conference on Pig Survivability, the International Conference on Pig Nutrition and Iowa Swine Day.

Prior to his time at ISU, Dr. Patience spent 21 years at the Prairie Swine Centre, a swine research facility at the University of Saskatchewan.
