Cargill's Quebec, Canada plant to shut down temporarily due to COVID-19
64 workers at the located in Chambly, a Montreal suburb facility tested positive for COVID-19, reported Reuters.
The company is expected to fully close operations temporarily by the middle of the week and send all workers from the plant to be tested for the virus.
Daniel Sullivan, spokesman for Cargill Canada said it is concerned about the rising number of cases among its workers and the surrounding community. The 64 cases accounts for 13% of the company's workforce.
Cargill's beef processing plant in High River, Alberta is scheduled to reopen its doors in May after it was forced to close after hundreds of workers tested positive for COVID-19. This beef plant accounts for 36% of Canada's beef processing capacity.
