Central Valley Meat to acquire Cargill's beef processing plant in California, US
Central Valley Meat Holding Co announced the acquisition of Cargill Meat Solutions' beef processing plant located in Fresno, California, US, with the transaction amount remaining undisclosed, Meat + Poultry reported.
Central Valley officials said that this acquisition would augment their processing capacity and enable them to address market demands in the region by offering a processing solution to beef and dairy cattle producers.
The company aims to leverage Cargill's expertise and resources to ensure its adaptability and service provision to customers as demands and expectations evolve. Central Valley stated that this acquisition would enhance operational efficiency and innovation throughout its supply chain.
Cargill acquired Central Valley's newest facility in 2006 from Beef Packers Inc. The plant, processing approximately 1,600 head per day and employing around 1,000 workers, has been operational since then. Existing employees at the plant will be given the opportunity to continue their employment once Central Valley takes over ownership.
Central Valley said both companies are committed to retaining as many employees as possible and retaining beef processing capacity.
As part of the deal, Cargill's ground beef and hamburger patty plant in Fresno were also included. Central Valley said the ground beef facility was included in the sale and is being leased back to Cargill where it will continue to operate.
Brian Coelho, chief executive officer and owner of Central Valley Meat, said their decision to acquire the Cargill Meat Solutions beef processing facility in Fresno aligns with their long-term vision of strengthening their offerings to better serve the needs of their customers.
Coelho said they are excited to work alongside cattle producers in the state and region to continue delivering quality beef products for our customers and consumers.
In 2019, Central Valley Meat Co expanded its portfolio by acquiring Harris Ranch Beef Co. in Selma. It presently operates Central Valley Meat in Hanford, CLW Foods in Los Angeles, and Harris Ranch Feeding in Coalinga.
