Irish milk intake up 3.9% in March

Irish domestic milk intake by creameries and pasteurisers in March was estimated at 617.6 million litres, up 3.9% year-on-year, data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) showed.

Milk intake in the first three months increased 1.1% to 1,040,300,000 litres from 1,029,300,000 litres in the same period last year.

Milk intake by creameries and pasteurisers refers to whole milk bought by creameries and pasteurisers from domestic producers through collection depots and separating stations. It includes whole milk obtained from herds owned by the creameries and pasteurisers. The fat content of the whole milk is also collected.

CSO said total milk sold for human consumption in March increased by 4.7 % to 46 million litres year-on-year. So did butter production, by 1.7 % to 20,430 tonnes.
