Mexico's Alfa opens US$60 million meat processing plant in Oklahoma

Mexican conglomerate Alfa SAB (ALFA.MX) said Wednesday (May 7, 2008) its food unit, Sigma, opened a US$60 million cold meat processing plant in Oklahoma, with which it aims to speed up its penetration in the US Hispanic market.

In a press release, Alfa said the plant, located in Seminole, will initially employ 130.

Last year Sigma accounted for a fifth of Monterrey-based Alfa's sales of nearly US$10 billion. The group also has operations in petrochemicals, auto parts and telecommunications.

The Oklahoma plant is Sigma's second production facility in the US.
