Ukraine's grain exports down by 19.7 percent in March



Ukraine's grain exports in March 2007 declined by 19.7 percent or 221,400 tonnes, compared to 900,860 tonnes from the same level last year, according to State Statistics Committee.


In March, main exports were barley totalling 593,750 tonnes or 65.9 percent of the entire grain exports volume, and corn - 250,910 tonnes or 27.9 percent of the total exports of grain.


Compared to February, grain exports in March rose by 2.8 times or 575,410 tonnes.


In January to March, grain exports fell by 57.7 percent or 1,697,810 tonnes, as against 1,243,780 tonnes for US$224.14 million on the same period last year.


Grain exports also plunged in February by 68.5 percent or 708,540 tonnes, compared to February 2006, to 325,450 tonnes for US$60.35 million.


In 2006, grain exports fell by 11.8 percent or 1,477,000 tonnes compared to 2005, to 11,024,610 tonnes for US$ 1,354.25 million.
