EFL AG DATA: Vietnam swine market, week ended March 13 - April 24, 2026

Vietnam's swine market showed mixed to firmer trends between March and April 2026, shaped by fluctuating pork demand, balanced supply conditions, and cautious herd rebuilding activity.

In mid-March, weaker post-holiday pork consumption weighed on fattening pig prices, although stronger restocking interest supported piglet and breeding stock values.

By late March, the market remained broadly balanced, with stable market-ready supply and uneven regional demand leading to mixed price movements across the country.

Conditions improved further by late April as seasonal consumption recovery and tighter supply in parts of southern Vietnam lifted hog prices and strengthened sentiment across the breeding segment.

Throughout the period, producers remained cautious but continued selective restocking, supported by relatively stable feed costs and expectations of gradual demand recovery.

Prices mixed as weak demand weighs on hogs while breeding segment firms (week ended March 13, 2026)

Swine prices in Vietnam showed mixed movement during the week, reflecting continued weakness in pork consumption alongside firm breeding demand.

Fattening pig prices softened overall, trading within a range of ₫61,800–64,500/kg (US$2.35–2.45), down from the previous week's broader range of ₫62,200–72,100/kg (US$2.36–2.74), as slaughter demand remained subdued following the post-holiday slowdown.

In contrast, piglet prices increased to around ₫1.85–2.10 million/head (US$70–80), supported by restocking interest at lower hog price levels. Breeding stock prices also edged higher, with conceivable sow prices rising to approximately ₫16.2–18.0 million/head (US$615–685) and gilt prices increasing to around ₫13.1–14.9 million/head (US$500–565).

Overall sentiment remained cautious, with producers balancing weaker near-term margins against expectations of a gradual demand recovery in the coming months.

Prices mixed as supply balances against uneven regional demand (week ended March 27, 2026)

The swine market remained mixed during the week, reflecting balanced supply conditions and uneven regional demand.

Market-ready pig supply remained relatively stable as earlier herd rebuilding continued, while consumption recovery stayed gradual. In some areas, improved slaughter demand supported prices, but overall market sentiment remained cautious due to sufficient supply. The near-term outlook is stable, with slight regional divergence depending on demand strength.

Fattening pig prices showed mixed movements, ranging around ₫62,300–67,200/kg (US$2.37–2.55), compared with ₫63,800–66,200/kg (US$2.42–2.52) previously. Northern and central regions recorded slight declines, while the south strengthened modestly. Piglet prices softened to approximately ₫1.85–1.91 million/head (US$70–73) from ₫1.88–2.10 million/head (US$71–80), reflecting cautious restocking.

Sow prices were mostly stable to slightly lower, with conceivable sows at ₫16.5–17.1 million/head (US$625–650) and gilts steady around ₫14.5 million/head (US$550).

Prices firm on improving demand and tightening supply (week ended April 24, 2026)

Vietnam's swine market continued to trend upwards, supported by improving pork consumption and tightening supply in certain regions.

Seasonal demand recovery and controlled herd expansion helped balance the market, while feed cost stability supported producer margins. The near-term outlook remained firm.

Fattening pig prices increased slightly to around ₫65,800–69,300/kg (US$2.50–2.63), with stronger gains seen in the south due to tighter supply. Piglet prices also rose to approximately ₫2.05–2.23 million/head (US$78–85), reflecting improved restocking sentiment.

Breeding stock prices strengthened, with conceivable sows at about ₫18.5–19.2 million/head (US$700–730/head) and gilts at ₫15.0–16.0 million/head (US$570–610/head), supported by cautious herd rebuilding.
