Farmers' group in Albay province, Philippines, receives government grant to boost pork supply

A farmers' group in Albay province, Philippines, assisted by the country's Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), has received a PHP 5.5 million (US$96,000) swine production grant from the Philippines' Department of Agriculture (DA), Philippine News Agency reported.

Ronald Onguda, Agrarian Reform Program Officer I, said that the project aims to provide additional livelihood opportunities to the farmer-members of Quipia Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative (QARBC).

He said that the project encompasses a climate-controlled building system designed to accommodate up to 300 heads of swine, as part of the Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) project funded by the DA.

Rodrigo Realubit, DAR-Bicol assistant regional director for administration, expressed full support for the QARBC, encouraging them to expand their impact by involving more agrarian reform beneficiaries.
