Malaysia food prices may face pressure over next six months

Malaysia's food supply remains adequate and under control, but prices could face slight upward pressure over the next three to six months, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu has warned, citing rising costs across key inputs including animal feed, fertiliser and fuel.
Mohamad said animal feed costs account for up to 70% of chicken production costs, while fertiliser represents 40% to 50% of vegetable production costs. "When these costs increase, market prices may also be affected," he said in a Facebook post on Sunday.
The government has taken early measures in response, including the establishment of the National Economic Action Council to monitor supply stability and manage price pressures.
Mohamad also called on consumers to play their part by spending prudently, avoiding wastage and prioritising essential needs.
