Strong gains in fisheries, livestock and select agricultural commodities lift overall export performance, though price weakness in coffee and rice weighs on value growth.

Vietnam's agro-forestry-fishery exports reached an estimated US$23.04 billion in the first four months of 2026, up 5.4% year-on-year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, with fisheries and livestock products among the standout performers.

Fisheries exports grew 11.9% to US$3.59 billion, while livestock products surged 45.5% to US$245 million. Agricultural products, the largest category, rose 1.5% to US$12.16 billion, and forestry products edged up 0.8% to US$5.82 billion. In April alone, export value was estimated at US$6.05 billion, down 3.8% from March and 0.8% year-on-year.

Asia remained the dominant export market, accounting for 44.1% of total turnover, with shipments to the region rising 11.5%. The Americas and Europe followed with shares of 20.9% and 15.8% respectively, though exports to the Americas fell 3.5%. China was the single largest destination, taking 21.1% of total exports, with shipments surging 28.8%. The US accounted for 18.5% but recorded a 4.8% decline, while Japan held a 7% share with a marginal 1.3% increase.

Among key commodities, fruit and vegetables were a bright spot, with export value rising 22.3% to US$2.06 billion. Pepper exports reached 95,100 tonnes valued at US$614.4 million, up 20.9% in value. Coffee volumes rose 15% but export value fell 7.8% as prices declined sharply. Rice exports dropped 11.1%, while rubber, cashew nuts and tea also saw value declines.

China drove notable demand across several categories, with imports of coffee, rice, and fruit and vegetables rising 80.8%, 44.4% and 49.6% respectively. Other markets recorded strong gains in specific commodities, including the US for pepper, up 54.2%, Thailand for cashew nuts, up 58.6%, and Indonesia for rubber, which more than doubled.

On the import side, total agro-forestry-fishery imports in the four-month period reached US$17.65 billion, up 12% year-on-year, with agricultural products accounting for US$11.51 billion, up 16.2%.
