Ukraine shipped 46 million tonnes of grain, including 132,000 tonnes in May
Ukraine's Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food said the country exported 46 million tonnes of grain so far in the 2021/22 July-June season, including 132,000 tonnes shipped in May, Reuters reported.
The ministry did not provide a figure for April but it had shipped 763,000 tonnes through April 29.
According to the country's senior agriculture officials, Ukraine shipped 300,000 tonnes of grain in March. Analyst APK-Inform said Ukraine shipped 923,000 tonnes of grain in April.
Before the Russian invasion, Ukraine exports up to 6 million tonnes of grain monthly. At this point in the 2020/21 season, Ukraine shipped 38.99 million tonnes of grain.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food said the 2021/22 export volumes included 18.53 million tonnes of wheat, 21.33 million tonnes of corn and 5.68 million tonnes of barley.
Exports in May included 121,000 tonnes of corn, 4,000 tonnes of wheat and 7,000 tonnes of barley.
The ministry did not say how the grains were exported.
Russia's invasion into Ukraine has forced the latter to export grains using trains through its western border or via its small Danube River ports. Before the conflict, Ukraine shipped goods through seaports.
