Kazakhstan stops sale of poultry from Russia and Belarus

Kazakhstan has banned the sale of poultry imported from Russia and Belarus, according to Bolatbek Kuandikov, the chairman of the Consumer Rights Protection Agency on May 4, at a briefing at the Central Communications Service under the Kazakh president.

"Test purchases and laboratory tests were conducted jointly with the public associations in Astana with respect to chicken imported from Russia and Belarus. Some irregularities of the sanitary and epidemiologic requirements were found as a result of these tests," Kuandikov said.

Thus, the Consumer Rights Protection Agency adopted a decision to ban the sale of these products in Kazakhstan, according to the agency head.

"This is not about banning the import, because we have no customs borders with Belarus and Russia. So, the ban only concerns the sale," Kuandikov explained.
