Papua New Guinea's Trukai halts live cattle exports
Trukai, a major producer and marketer of a whole range of foods for Papua New Guinea, has stopped exports of live cattle due to strong local demand for beef.
Families having more spending power and the operation of several new resource development projects whose caterers are buying extra beef drive the increased demand.
The suspension of exports is temporary and will resume once farmers have sufficient stocks of marketable cattle, said Trukai Agribusiness Manager Geoff Fahey.
Trukai has previously organised several shipments to Indonesia and other domestic destinations.
