Nestle launches Wunda brand pea-based milk alternative

Nestle has launched Wunda, a new brand of milk made from yellow peas, as the company aims to increase its plant-based market presence, Reuters reported.

Wunda will be launched over the coming weeks in France, Portugal, and the Netherlands in original, unsweetened, and chocolate flavours. There are plans for the product to be launched in other European markets.

Nestle said the product was developed in six months and is carbon neutral. It is high in calcium, proteins and fibre and can be consumed hot or cold or used in cooking or baking.

Cedric Boehm, head of Nestle's dairy business in Europe and the Middle East, said Wunda will be priced at the heart of the market.

In February, Nestle said sales of plant-based dairy alternatives have reached double-digit growth in 2020, reaching more than CHF 100 million (~US$109.41 million; CHF 1 = US$1.10).
