Tyson Foods and Beyond Meat launch new plant-based burgers

Tyson Foods will be launching its Raised & Rooted brand of plant-based hamburgers ahead of the summer grilling season in the United States, putting the company head-to-head against Beyond Meat's upcoming new version of its plant-based Beyond Burger, Reuters reported.

Tyson Foods said it will be launching burger patties, bratwurst, Italian sausage, and ground meat made from pea protein. The burger patties will be marketed under the Raised & Rooted brand, sold at US$4.99 for a package of two quarter-pound patties.

Tyson Foods had released a burger patty product made from a mix of beef and plants but pulled the product from shelves last year.

Beyond Meat will launch a new version of its plant-based Beyond Burger this week, at a suggested retail price of US$5.99 for packages of two quarter-pound patties and US$9.99 for new packs of four patties. A one-pound Beyond Beef pack will also be sold.

Beyond Meat said its new version of Beyond Burger is juicier, "BBQ-ier", and its flavour is comparable to ground beef. Compared to Tyson Foods' burger that is 21 grams per serving, Beyond Burger's patty has 20 grams of protein.

Beyond Meat currently sells plant-based bratwurst and Italian sausage.
