Thai shrimp exporters believe China is avoiding US tariffs
Countries that have only just started exporting shrimp to the US and are seeing gains, are being suspected by Thai shrimp exporters of being third party countries for China to re-rout business in order to avoid antidumping duties.
Investigations by the Thai Frozen Foods Association shows that the volume of Chinese shrimp exports to several countries in 2004 coincided with the volume of exports from those countries to the US. The association therefore suspects that China could be exporting shrimp to the US via Mexico, Indonesia, Malaysia or Cambodia.
