EU countries see drop in sow inventories last year

Most EU countries — with the exception of Spain, Romania, Latvia and Finland — had seen their sow inventories dropped again in 2021.

Decreases in affected EU member states are as follow:

    - Germany, -7.3%;

    - France, -3.83%;

    - Italy, -3.08%;

    - Denmark, -2.98%;

    - Belgium, -2.27%;

    - The Netherlands, -1.41%.

In contrast, Spain continued to increase its breeding herd by 1.88%, from 2,635,250 sows in 2020 to 2,684,910 in 2021, according to Eurostat data.
