Cargill set to introduce more plant-based meats to China

This is following a successful plant-based nuggets trial in KFC China by Yum China Holdings in Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou between April 28 to April 30, reported Reuters.

The nuggets are said to taste like meat and have the same texture. Cargill said the nuggets were quickly sold out.

The company is set to introduce more plant-based products to China's foodservice industry and offer a new brand for the consumer market called PlantEver at end-June. PlantEver will be available both online and offline.

Plant-based food producers said the COVID-19 pandemic has consumers rethinking their diets.

Euromonitor said China's "free from meat' market (which include plant-based meats) is expected to be valued at US$12 billion by 2023.

Starbucks China had recently introduced Beyond Meat products in a lunch plant-based menu.

Jackson Chan, managing director of Cargill Protein China said the company will continue to innovate.
