Pakistan to build first slaughter plant on higher meat demands

Pakistan is likely to have its first slaughter-house and a wholesale meat market to cope with the needs of increasing population.

A slaughter-house is already functional in Humak area of Islamabad, but it is being run by Rawalpindi administration illegally, said a CDA official.

The official said the slaughter-house was established on 25 acres land under a project funded by the Yugoslavian government and a joint board was formed to operate it, prior to establishment of district administration of Islamabad.

The official said that to fulfill the capital's needs, the authority has earmarked a 20 acre area in Sector H-9/3 near Weekly Bazaar and has invited the interested parties to express their interest to operate the slaughter-house and meat market on design, build, operate and transfer basis.

Additionally, it would have the facilities of slaughtering area, chillers, cold storage, laboratory, warehouse, state-of-the-art system for disposal of by-products, animal waste and assembly area for animals, he said.
