Australian beef exports to South Korea fall 33 percent

Australian beef exports to South Korea fell 33 percent to 6,802 tonnes in April compared to March. The decline is because of a bigger volume of US frozen beef stocks entering the market coupled with larger shipments of Australian beef in previous months.

Chilled and grain fed beef exports fell 16 percent and 18 percent respectively compared to last month, to 1,316 tonnes and 1,418 tonnes respectively.

Total exports for the year ended in April reached 31,177 tonnes, 9 percent higher than in 2004. Chilled exports and grain fed exports were 92 percent and 221 percent respectively above the same period in 2004.

Reduced demand for frozen beef has caused exporters to speculate that shipments of beef may decrease further in May.
