No anti-competitive activity in Canadian beef industry

 

 

Though Canadian cattle prices have dropped since the mad cow crisis, steady prices that were a result of consumer demand for Canadian beef have led to complaints of anti-competitive activity in the industry.

 

However, investigations by the Federal Competition Bureau has shown no evidence that there was collusion among beef packers to lower prices paid to cattle producers, or among grocers to raise or maintain retail prices for beef.
