Indonesia and Iran in cooperation to support Indonesian agriculture with technology and science

Indonesia's Ministry of Agriculture and Iran have established synergy to strengthen Indonesia's agricultural sector through technological and scientific cooperation to drive stronger and more sustainable food productivity.

"Iran is very advanced in the latest high-tech irrigation systems and technology for preserving food," said Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia Mohammad Boroujerdi during a meeting with Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman in Jakarta on April 30.

Boroujerdi noted that various technologies owned by Iran include production storage machines, planting machines, preservation machines and other latest machines, such as water propulsion or pumping systems.

Boroujerdi highlighted that efforts to boost food productivity in a stronger and more sustainable manner were conducted by strengthening mechanisation and pumping systems as well as utilising swamp land.

He added that his side will encourage food import and export exchanges with Indonesia in the horticulture subsector, especially those related to fruits.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, assessed that Iran is known for its technological advancements.

"Iran even has its own technology that can increase agricultural production," he remarked.

According to Sulaiman, he continues to focus on increasing rice and corn production as Indonesia's future commodities. One of the efforts is to create a quick solution to anticipate El Nino with pumping technology and processing swamp land.

Sulaiman expressed hope that cooperation with Iran would help Indonesia's efforts to achieve food self-sufficiency, with the possibility of becoming the world's food basket.

"Our target in the next two years is to achieve self-sufficiency," he said.
