Grecce reports ASF outbreak on local pig farm in late April

The Official Veterinary Services (SVO) of Greece reported an outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) on a domestic pig farm on April 26.
The farm, with an inventory of 675 animals (one boar, 53 breeding sows and 621 finishing pigs), is located in the municipal district of Livadia, municipality of Sintiki, and the regional unit of Serres, within the reinforced surveillance zone I.
Following clinical suspicion of the disease, samples were taken and tested positive by RT-PCR at the National Reference Laboratory.
This is the second case of ASF detected in domestic pigs in Greece in the same region of Serres, after authorities detected a single case in a backyard farm on February 5.
The first case of ASF in wild boar in the same region was reported on January 20 this year.
